Long story short, I'm trying to find an alternative oil for tea tree oil to use in my sunburn salve (it's literally aloe, vitamin E and tea tree oil). I need to find an herb/oil that the Europeans would have had access to (either via trade or grown in their own land- so if it grows in China and India, that's cool) during 600-1600 AD.

Tea tree oil comes from Austraila and wasn't found by the Europeans until after that time period. I'm doing this for a medieval herbal project.

I've tried Lavender, but it doesn't seem as effective, and can have a slight burning sensation. Thanks bunches!

maybe chammomille oil. another plant is savine oil ( in latin is juniperus sabina)....those are "made in europe".

we also use infusions of hammamelis, St.John's wort, pot marygold (calendula officinalis)..

efficient are also yogurt and tomatoes...

Lavender oil works wonders for sunburns, I always mix it with aloe and put it on my sunburn and it takes the burn out fast.
