That's what I've been trying to do since I've actually become more sincere in my studies. I want to do things my way really, but I tend to be so technical about everything i do. lol. And another thing, i thought that that was pretty much one of the only wiccan rules; abide the rede. Excuse me for all the questions. I really am trying to understand. lol

The issue with the Wiccan Rede is that there is a lot of disagreement on what it really means. There are quite a few threads about the 'harm none' rule on here that you might want to check as time permits.
It takes time to find a way to make a circle cast comfortable but also allowing the circle to be strong and stand. Since you seem to be newer, I would suggest at first to adhere more closely to standard book advice because there are a few basic things that should be included in a circle cast and as you go along you will learn what you can modify without loosing the purpose of the circle cast.

Yes, ISO2 makes a very good point. With the Wiccan Rede, as a whole, there's a lot of room for interpretation. With specific parts, such as the "harm none", there has been debates, but again, I stress, it adheres to individual thinking.

I also agree that you should begin circle casting a very formal way, you can use the Wicca Revealed lessons to help with that. Once you understand what's needed to be protected, you can create a way that is most beneficial to you. Remember, practice, practice, and practice! :D

i failed to find these threads you were talking about concerning the rede. i understand what you're saying about it being a matter of personal interpretation, but i don't see what debate could derive from the "harm none".

OK quickly to the harm none and I am trying to summarize the current debates:
1) It says if it harm none do what you will. It says nothing about those times if you cannot avoid harm
2) strictly speaking most our actions harm some other organism in some way. Say you take an antibiotic because you feel ill. By taking that medication you are killing some other organism
3) then there is the whole debate of self defense and how far one may go - and I differ strongly here from traditional Wicca so I am not a good source here

Tied to that is that some believe in the threefold law some don't and some do believe and just don't worry about it.

You see there is a lot of room for personal interpretation. Also depending what pantheon chooses you, your gods may be more or less peace loving. Ah yeah these discussion have been spinning around here for quite a while and it really boils down to personal interpretation - and is in my opinion a major reason for some to turn away from Wicca towards a more general (?) path of paganism.

Valid debate is always interesting , nothing is ever set in stone. I also understand your views , we all have our opinion and views this is what makes us all individual.
The key is to respect other views, but also here, read we always should have room to learn more, to grow and to develop our beliefs, so yes we need debate from all kinds of views.

Wicca is not set , there are variations , so some believe in different parts, hence along come ecclectics ..
All very interesting .
Thankyou

Merry Meet Mugwump, I like the way you cast your circle. It's quite different from my way, which is exactly why I love being a Pagan, we're all individual and like things our own way..but we're all trying to accomplish much of the same things! :)

Thanks for sharing.

Love and Light,
Lina

i use a specific chant to cast mine, but after years of practice im able to "throw up" a good sized circle thats solidly built without even moving a muscle  its extremly helpful in public places,lmao....
but thats just me :clover:
i think there are probably thousands of very valid ways to cast circles, maybe ill start a lil simple thread on the ways we all cast them; might be fun

Hm... sorry, silly question. I haven't yet tried Candle Magick, but I'd read that you're only supposed to light a candle once when used with spellwork because they soak up too many negative energies.

I was wondering if the candles used on altars can be "RE-consecrated" and still be used atop the altar?

And the same question goes for candles used to represent the deities and the elementals...

I just want to make sure everything goes smoothly when I perform my first ritual/cast a spell.

:D Thank you!

There are some candle spells where the candles have to be lit each day for several days until the spell is completed so not sure what the authors are on about when they say to only light a candle once! Once a candle has been used for spellwork I would never use that candle for another spell, though.

I use may altar candles until they are burned down, I do reconsecrate them though. My altar candles are my deity candles. I use my elemental candles until they are burned down, too.
