I was able to do an invocation this evening and got a little more guidance on my situation and how to handle it. One of which is opening my chakras.

I'll be honest, I haven't worked with my chakras in years (I know, bad little witch), and my notes are such are buried in an over stuff back room in the bottom of an old hope chest.

Would anyone like to give me some information on opening the chakras, meditations they use, etc.

Here is a link I found which sounded like good, sound information to me. Do you agree?

http://www.eclecticenergies.com/chakras/open.php

Thanks!

I like the link, Bastette. ;)

Mostly I use visualization and meditation to clean and balance my chakras. I could be wrong, but I already see my chakras as open, if I were to open them more it might tilt them off balance and I'd be an utter mess. lol

I visualize each as a flower of the corresponding color. Feel it come to the surface of my skin, watch it shake off any goop and revitalize it's color, then watch it sink back down into my skin and nestle in with a healthy spin. I start with the root and work my way up. I can then stand back and take a look at myself and see that my chakras are emitting a healthy and vibrant light, not one brighter or dimmer.

At quick glance the link looks good :)

Personally, I don't think it's always a good idea to just fully open the chakras willy nilly... you can cause imbalances and purging of emotional or latent psychological stuff that you may not be ready for. You can also burn yourself out or temporarily fry your energy circuits if you channel too much energy through them at once for prolonged periods of time. Unexpected kundalini risings and things like that can cause just as much damage as they can enlightenment, which is exactly why there is so much groundwork to be laid before you attempt the heavy duty chakra work.

Having said that, exercises like what you're talking about are more about balancing and clearing the chakras than 'opening' them and channeling a lot of energy through. They're relatively safe as long as you're not overtaxing yourself, and as long as you do the entire balancing. And if you've opened them up a bit to channel energy for a magickal working rather than just a clearing, it's important to close them down afterwards or bring the energy flow back to a small trickle for daily use. To much energy coming through will make you lightheaded and spacey, and may unbalance things.

Chakra work for long term changes is best done slowly and over a long period of time, making minor adjustments and allowing your system to acclimatise before you make the next adjustment. If you're a relatively balanced person then it's not as crucial as if you're an imbalanced person (and by that I mean purely chakra-wise, not mentally or emotionally unbalanced lol)

Personally, I just do a regular, general balancing and clearing exercise. I meditate and pull energy slowly up from my root chakra, visualising the chakra spinning bright and clear. Sometimes the chakras are already spinning bright and clear, and sometimes certain ones are a big sluggish. I go up the line, bringing energy up through each one until they're all spinning bright and clear and at the same pace. Then I lower the active energy line and 'shut it down', although it's not completely shut down, it's just that I'm not actively channeling it up anymore. Sometimes I have to spend a bit of time at a certain chakra, getting it clear and spinning nicely, and other times a chakra will already be fine. I also tend to get a light burning sensation in the area of the chakra when I'm working on it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have been doing a daily grounding. Usually a few hours after I wake up (I need my morning coffee first! LOL!), and sometimes right before bed.

What I've been doing is working with one chakra at a time. I started with the root chakra and spent only a few minutes every few days while doing my grounding to open/ balance it (I suppose I should have been more specific). I've finished with my root chakra. I got the energies in a place that feels balanced and 'right' for me. Now I'm working on the Sacral Chakra.

Is this a good idea, to work with each one at a time, or should I be focusing on all of them?

I Should also add, that as I work with the Sacral chakra, I don't ignore the root chakra. I check how it feels during my grounding and if it needs a little adjustment, I do so.

That sounds like a good way to go to me, Bastette :D. Taking it slow and working at things in little increments. I think if you're doing it slowly over a few days you shouldn't notice any sudden unbalancing of your emotions or state of being, but just be aware that if you find one of your chakras is really underactive, that you may want to spend a little longer on it or risk dredging up things. Also pay attention to your general moods or behaviour, and if you notice that you're starting to act odd or be extra sensitive or outspoken or whatever, that you might need to adjust things to a lower level until you can get them all on the same page, so to speak.

So far, things have felt over active. Can you describe what an under active chakra feels like? With the other two chakras, I just seemed to KNOW that they were over active, like a gut reaction.

Well overactive or underactive would be represented by how you tend to act as well as what you might see in your meditations on the chakras. Someone with an underactive throat chakra would have difficult expressing themselves or communicating with people. Someone with an underactive heart chakra might have trouble opening up emotionally and letting people in.

When you do your meditations, you might see that an underactive chakra looks sluggish, gunky, dull or closed up, depending on what imagery you use to represent them. In terms of 'feeling', well that depends on the person. You might feel like it's hard to get the energy in there, or feel sluggish or tired or flat when you concentrate on that chakra. It's very subjective *shrugs*

well I simply imagine a Lotus flower that starts as a small bud and grows into a large beautiful flower. once the flower is in full bloom you have opened your chakra and are able to cleanse it with the light of the goddess.
this can be a long and drawn out process depending on how many chakras you are able to see. I do recommend opening and cleansing them all. Otherwise you invite imbalance and discord into your life.
