Are you the oldest, WhiteFox?

It seems like the older siblings get all the discipline, then when the younger ones come along, the parents just give up.

There was only two of us, and I was just 5 years older, but there was a vast difference in the discipline techniques my parents used on the two of us.

I don't know what the answer is. I know as a parent, it would be easy to feel as if your hands are tied as far as discipline goes these days. You certainly can't discipline kids the way you were disciplined growing up, and I sometimes think they just don't know what else to do. Kids are spoiled and demanding because of this...

And you can watch it happening in accordance with the times changing...

Those that grew up with a swat on the backside for doing something wrong learned a few lessons along the way. Unfortunately, many parents (my own included) carried the 'swatting' a bit too far, and that contributed to the predicament we are in now.

There's probably nothing you can do, unless you could somehow manage to get your parents support. Everything you do would be undone by them, if the children ran to them and you were the one who wound up being scolded.

When the little ones get older, they're going to wish they'd done things differently, but I'm afraid it won't hit home for them until then.

I'm the oldest by at least 8 years, so I had a very different childhood than any of them.

I just don't understand why they keep having more kids when it's clear that they can't even handle the ones they already have. I can't imagine the biological urges to be that strong that it overrides reason so easily.

WhiteFox I do know what your going through.. I am exactly 8 years older than my sister, and 16 years older than my brother.. (yeah I know big difference in age) LOL!!! Morgane is so right... I've seen this first hand, Boy I was disciplined but when they came along, I saw how they didn't get disciplined like me, didn't have to do any chores/work, etc..... Like my mom gave up. LOL!!! But I was lucky, because I always disciplined them , and never got in trouble for doing it thank goodness, but it really didn't matter anyway, because when they were back around mom , they still got to get away with whatever they wanted...... Maybe if you constantly complain to your parents about it when they act up, they might get tired of it, and finally do something.. LOL!!! Sorry I know not much help. Just wanted you to know I do know how your feeling my dear.... :torey:

Lol, my youngest brother is exactly 16 years younger too XD The rest of them are in between the 8-16 range.

Good to know I'm not wrong in how I feel. Keep getting told that I should be a "good big sister", as if I should just let them walk all over me. Bah.

i think you are a great big sister, you are obviously looking out not only for you but for them. which says alot. im sorry you are still having difficulties, maybe you could set up some type of reward system...like if you are good for X amount of days ill buy you a candy bar on saturday... or something,lol...it doesnt need to be expensive or anything. when i was younger my sister always wanted my things,so it was easy to reward her with a bottle of nail polish or a piece of costume jewelry etc... or the permission to wear my clothes etc......
