I have a question. I hope I don't sound completely naive. When making offering to the God and Goddess (Lord and Lady), what happends the the object your are offering when the circle is closed? I have read several different subjects on what to offer, but nothing about what happens after. If the offering is edible, do you just leave it there on the alter, or do you use it in some form? What about if the offering is something of high value to you? I have not yet begun to cast circles, as I am just begining to learn. I feel it would be better to have a visual aid when I start casting the circles. I have yarn that I'm planning to use. My question is, does it have to be a completely round circle or can I move towards an oval? The room I'm going to use is narrow and I don't think I'll fit my altar and be able to walk around it if my circle is round. Thanks to everyone here for making me feel welcomed.

Merry meet, Heather_C!

This was a subject of some debate a while ago lol

Typically - what happens to an offering after the ritual is that it is returned to the earth...i.e. - taken outdoors, left in a special place for nature to consume.

Some people were arguing that YOU can 'technically' consume the offering if you go by the 'we are all part of the Divine' hooplah, but in general you should allow it to go to nature first...unless you absolutely cannot go outside for some reason.

I personally find that consuming the offering oneself is not the thing to do - but that's just me. I think that it should be left to the elements and to the animals and to the earth - after all, it is an offering...offer it up.

Whoops forgot to mention about the circle/oval - the shape on the floor isn't important, it's the sphere of energy in your mind's eye that is. The circle should be something more of a bubble instead of a flat old circle - and an oval shape when drawn out is fine.

My offerings are usually food and/or drink, which I leave out under a tree for the fairies.

Thank you both for clarifying that for me. I'm sure I will have many more questions to ask. Thank you again.

Any questions, feel free to ask. Someone's had the same question before, and others will later. We've all been learners. Some still are, like me.

Hi everyone!
I just finished casting my first circle and was wondering if anyone could give me some input. I cast the circle by putting candles representing the four elements in the corners then starting at the north pictured white-blue light coming from my finger and moving clockwise connected the points (this is what my book said to do). Then I invited the four elements and did my work. When I went to close the circle I started again at the north, pointed at the circle and pictured the white-blue light dissipating into the ground. As soon as the circle broke I instantly felt drained. I'd almost say faint, but drained and weak are probably better words. Is this normal? Did I do something wrong when undoing the circle? Any input would be great.
Thanks

It depends if you cast the circle using energy already present in the ground or if you used your own and it also depends what other work you did. Fatigue can happen of course.

I'd say the same as IS02. What might help next time you cast the circle is to visualize the energy coming into you and through you - don't use your own energy.

Before you cast the circle, take a while to draw up the energy from the earth into you before you draw the circle.

When you finish the circle, imagine the energy being drawn back into your finger. You can then release the energy back into the ground by bending down and touching the floor with both hands. There is less personal power drain in this method.

I'm always interested to hear other people's experiences with casting. When I cast, the power comes out blue and wispy - almost as if I were carrying incense around the circle - which strengthens and becomes a blue band. When I draw it in, it's like hoovering it up back into my finger.

I read this somewhere else so i dont take credit for it but...

When i cast my circle i say

The circle it cast, the circle will last

When closing the circle i say

The circle is open but never broken

I was a little puzzled by your method of casting a circle. The Wiccan Rede says "For tread the Circle thrice about to keep unwelcome spirits out." I kind of just assumed that was general method, but you only circle once. It was interesting to see that some people did it that way....

Merry Meet Deirdre_Dreamwalker. The Wiccan way to cast a circle is not exactly the "right" way to do so. Many people who practise magick aren't Wiccan, so they cast a circle the way that makes them most comfortable and adheres to their individual needs. If many Wiccans, myself included, don't exactly follow the Rede word for word, I find it would be quite difficult if not close to impossible!

When casting a circle, do what makes you most comfortable. If you try it different ways, you'll know which one you prefer.

Bright Blessings!
