I am wondering if anyone can help me...my sister is having nightmares or what could be repressed memories of something really bad that happened to her as a kid - way before she came to live with me. I was wondering if anyone know a way to either help her remember without basically going into panic attacks/freaking out or a way to stop the dreams altogether. She is 17 and yes I have her permission to do whatever it takes to make them stop. She is afraid to sleep, when she does sleep she wakes up screaming.

I suggest she go see a psychologist, they might send her to a psychiatrist for medication if it's that bad. I will include her in my healing thoughts. You also might try having her drink a tea made with calming herbs in it before bed. Lavender, jasmine and chamomile are good ones. If you need any help with the teas, I'm here for ya and her.

Swan Trying to use that as a last resort. When she was a kid they put her on meds because she sees ghosts and her mom thought (still thinks) she is nuts. She was so medicated she was basically a zombie and she is worried about that happening again.

You could always try a dreamcatcher, they're supposed to trap any nightmares. Each night before she goes to sleep you can put protection around the bed, too. But if the nightmares are persistant a psychologist could probably help.

Elia V wrote: Does she still see Ghosts?? Is she into Witchcraft at all?? Do you have enough experience to help her learn to shield?? If she still sees Ghosts and is a Medium would she be willing to use her gift to her advantage? Has she researched what a medium is and how to control that?
If she doesn't still have this gift, and is just having nightmares, she could try evoking the Goddess Nepthys for psychic protection. This would be done solo by her. I can PM you with details if you would like to try this.
And she could try a sleep Dr. they dont use medication, and might be able to help her.
Ill keep her in my thoughts and prayers, nightmares are a terrible thing to deal with.

Yes, she still sees ghosts. She is into witchcraft we are actually learning together. She does know how to shield, at least when she is awake. The person she is having nightmares is still alive as far as we know...so I am curious how seeing the ghosts could help? At least for the moment Drs are out of the question, because I just found out her insurance in the state she used to live was never canceled so they canceled her insurance here. That is going to take a few days to straighten out, so I need to figure out something I can do for her here, now. I was wondering if some sort of dream pillow might help? We are at the point where we will try anything.

You might want to try St.John's wort, the normal infusion, 3 times a day...if that doesn't work, try poppy seeds, infusion, one teaspoon for every 150 ml water. Don't overdose, poppy seeds is "heavy artillery"... Nightmares can also be a sign for a medical condition, so it would be helpful to have her blood/urine analysed too asap. (for instance, lack of ionic calcium can give nightmares and states of panic) And I think that for now, she could keep the ghosts for herself in front of the muggles (i.e.shrink or such sort of people) I'd say that regression would be a bit extreme, given she is so scared. Hope this helps a bit..

have tried to grid the bed with rocks to spread some nice energy around? Not sure that works in severe cases. Next suggestion is to learn to control dreams and to confront whatever bothers her in her dreams

Yes dream control is possible, try a book on vivid dreaming and how to control the dream. It takes a while to learn tho. She can shield before sleep, and she could go so far as casting a circle around her bed. saying "no negativity is allowed in this space only peace, love, and light" It cant hurt to try.

Found part of the source of the problem there is a teacher at her school who looks like the person she is having the nightmares about. She didn't realize it until she saw him for a second time today. It isn't the same person they just resemble each other enough for it to trigger something.

I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. I would recommend solving the underlying issues instead of just the symptoms. I.E. is the nightmare the same each night? Does she use a dream journal to help determine what it really is? If its about a specific person do you know why she is so afraid of them? There are many questions to ask, but the end result will be worth it. It wont be easy but both of you will grow and learn because of it. Wish I could do more to help.

Yes,we know who/what causes them. We have sat down and talked about them and the situation that caused them to start. Since she started talking to me about them she has realized some of them are repressed memories. She still has them, but they are less frequent now. They were triggered by a person who looked like the person who the dreams were about...If that makes sense.

Read up on controlling dreams. It really works.
