Knot magic can be worked for healing, cursing and binding.

When you're working knot magic it's imprtant to fill the thread(s) with the energy and intent of what you're working for. The knots hold the power bound with your intentions.

The most common colours are white, red or black. White for growth and increase; erotic workings; beginnings. Red for protection and to help someone who is ill to regain vitality; also for health and for fertility. Black is usually used for cursing, binding and destruction. Since white, red and black are the colours of the Goddess, usually the Mother, if you plait them all together to make one cord the the power of Goddess is brought into the working. A charm can be made to protect women in childbirth.

As you tie each knot say:

By knot of one, the spell's begun
By knot of two, it cometh true
By knot of three, so mote it be
By knot of four, the power will store
By knot of five, the spell's alive
By knot of six, the spell is fixed
By knot of seven, the power to heaven
By knot of eight, ties up the fate
By knot of nine, what's done is mine.

When working this spell everyone I know does it in a consecrated circle.

Since the first time I tried knot magic it was very soothing and calming for me, especially braiding the threads together. I love this method!

I've braided three strands of black thread together, knotted it with each worry or stresser point I was trying to rid myself of, then wrapped it around a rosemary sprig and burned the lot of it. Then thanked the Nature Spirits in my own little way for taking the worry or stresser and doing as they see fit with harm to none. I have an ash pot that I put the ashes in to scatter later on. lol

I agree, Asphodel, doing knot magic helps you to get into an altered state of consciousnes. I think that's one reason why it works so well.

Your spell to release the stresses sounds great.

Do you do your knots starting in the middle - 1 in the middle, then 2 to the left of 1 and 3 to the right of 1. Then 4 to the left of 2 and 5 to the right of 3 and so on........?

On my MagickaSpace group I posted an article that included instructions for a macrame bookmark... with it I included a similar chant. In the pattern each row consist of nine knots, so the chant can be repeated throughout the construction of the bookmark, and you will have a magickal artifact filled with your intent.

THE CHANT
Tie the knots for the first row while reciting the following:
By knot of one, the spell’s begun
By knot of two, I make it true
By knot of three, I call on She
By knot of four, magick power I store
By knot of five, the spell will thrive
By knot of six, the spell I fix
By knot of seven, it’s blessed by Heaven
By knot of eight, I seal its fate
By knot of nine, this spell entwine

Continue the series of knots like this for each row changing the first line to:
By knot of one, the spell moves on

I've seen many variations of the incantation... sometimes with 5 or 7 knots in the series.

Blessed Be,

I wonder if doing crochet, knitting or macrame could all be considered forms of knot magic??? I know that when my Mom gets going on Crochet, she really is in another world!!!

I've seen a few variations on the chant, too, and also using 5 or 7 knots. I like nine knots, myself, though.

Yes, I believe that crochet, knitting and macrame when you incorporate your intent can be considered knot magic.

I do, Briganta. :D It was how I first learned to knot the cord and it kind-of stuck.

I like 9 as well, but I think it has a lot to do with how I learned as well as the chant just kind of 'flowing' the way that it does.

I'd never thought of macrame or crochet as a form of knot magic! But for sure, I think y'all are right. :D It's so very easy to get lost in crochet while I'm doing it! It used to be one of most favorite winter projects! I'd make one afgan right after another; my kids have them, we have them, my parents had one each, even the dogs had a new one before winter was over! I haven't done one in years.

It's time to start collecting yarns through the summer again, like a little squirrel hording acorns for the winter. :D

Y'all have just connected a few dots for me! :D Thank you so much!! :glomp:

Actually, I started to think I should do some knitting and maybe crochet again, it's been years for me, too :D I used to love doing macrame, too.

I too use magical intent when crocheting... while some patterns lend then selves well to a counted chant... others are less natural to this but any little chant that aides in focusing your intention seems to work (for me at least).

For example, when making a scarf for a hunter friend of mine... I crocheted with the intention of keeping him safe and sound; and that he be able to find the quarry needed to feed and nurture his family. The scarf pattern was 4 of one stitch then 4 of another.. and aloud at the beginning and ends of a crochet session, but in my head all along, I would chant, "Keep safe and sound while food be found." That would also set a rhythm. The rhythm of the chant and stitches also work to deepen an altered state [a means of achieving said state when the more common things like dance or drumming cannot be utilized to set a rhythm].

Blessed Be, DML

I think that knot magic has been around so long that there are a few variations of the words. I'm not sure where I got this one from but I've had it for a long time and I also have another one with slightly different wording.

There is indeed knot magick for everythng! I was looking at a health spell where you make a bracelet out of knot spell you've done, the knot spell can only have 7 knots in it. The patient wears the bracelet and each day you untie a knot. By the end the patient is supposed to be healed

I'm going to have to try this.

Any special kind of cord to use?
Could you use different colors depending on what you wanted? Say green to bring money to you etc?
