I recently got a tarot deck.. its a long story (all in my blog - for those curious types!) but its not "new". do i need to cleanse the cards in anyway before i use them, since i'm not the first to use and touch them?

I would, CrystalFlame - but that's just me. I usually just pass mine through the smoke of a cleansing incense.

I would cleanse them, as well.
I even cleanse a brand new deck, though!
If you don't cleanse them to remove old energies, you may not be able to instill them with your energies.

Thank you Torey, thank you Morgane - I will be sure to cleanse them before using.
Is there anything in particular that might be best used as a cleansing for tarots? I know that all cleansing methods can work - just curious if there was any herbs/specific incense that works best with cards.
Blessed be,
CF

I wouldn't think there's anything really specific I would just go with whatever seems best to you - any kind of cleansing herb should be fine.

I tend to use jasmine incense for most of my cleansing, when this is the method I use. No real logic to using jasmine other than that it's my favourite scent.
Just pick a scent, light it, and slowly move each card through the smoke. (Don't place the cards above the smoke and leave them, as the resin from the incense will stain your cards! I did this once with a silver necklace and really regretted it!)

Then an exorcism may be in order!

Should a differeent cleansing ritual be used if the cards are pre owned rather than if they are shop bought . Just in case of this possession ? I had not thought of possession. Sorry if I appear a little dim. Is this like if they have bad vibes or if they have been used in a bad way before .

I don't really know, Diane. I'm very hesitant to buy used decks because of this. There is a deck I really want right now and can only find it as used, but I just keep hoping I will stumble across it somewhere!
In most cases, I would think normal cleansing and charging would remove all negative energies.

Hello Morgane. I have always been wary of buying used decks. I dont know seems a bit on the edgy side to me , so I have not done so. I looked for new and saved up. I just thought to myself if the deck I want is for me then it will turn up at a price I wanted to pay new. I am a bit too nervous to buy used.
Thanks for the feedback BB Diane

I think there is a big difference between buying new adn buying used - personally it seems a bit strange to buy a used set of tarot (much like buying other personal objects). But this set caleld to me, so i suppose thats a little different!!

I guess in the end it is a personal choice . I dont think there is a wrong and a right . Hope you get the deck you are called to .

I was mostly joking about the possession bit. If you read Japanese myths and folktales, there's some amusing ones of haunted books, shoes, toys, etc. Traditional Japanese culture had an animistic view of their environment (basically "life exists in everything"), so it wasn't far-fetched for objects to have their own minds at times.
