Ahhhhh you guys are so funny. I wonder what would happen if you went to a park and screamed I'm a witch I'm sure the reactions of poeple would be really funny to see. For when it comes to religion I ignore poeple who are rude in general, so they can try to push there religion on me even though I'm probabbly not hearing a word they say.

I forgot to mention that my children are 7 and 9, but if they were just a little older, a fun after the fact conversation would be to speculate with them what the person would have said if I had told them I was a Witch!!!! I'm looking forward to those conversations!

Quote - Elia Ahhh Thats funny, one of my Grandsons friends wouldent come around me after he told him I was a Witch, then a bike got stolen from a neighbors house, and they accused my Grand kids, I knew (we all did) it was the "friend" so I sent him word to return it, apologize, or come the next full moon he wouldent like whats coming, needless to say he took the bike back. Comes in handy at times being a Witch
Love it LadyHawke - I don't have to shout it out loud in a park, I work at a Witch store in a fairly small town and almost everyone knows who and what I am, half of them think it's cool but some are scared of me and the lady I work with, lol. Yes, but it's in Canada - delivery to the States is expensive, lol.

It just comes natural after a while, I say it as easily as id say Baptist. yes Katherine you will have fun with that, my little Granddaughter has been learning for a few years now (she is 11) some of her friends know some dont, she says she knows when not to trust somebody. It has to be harder for kids, and I dont push her at all. ~ Elia

well the proper social way to handle it would always be to say that it is not the proper place to talk of such things and to have a good day. though i have been bombarded by people before that could not take anything i said at all as a hint that im not interested. though they cornered me in the book store buying pagan books so it was crazy to begin with.. needless to say it just turned out bad, didnt fight but i dont shop at that store anymore. there wasnt any management involved i just more or less told them what they can do with the bible and exactly how far up it should go..
i was very polite and tried more then i think i should have to politely get them to leave me alone but i think they were getting paid to convert people or something.

I like that one.. it is really good... But yes... it is true... Religion should be something very personal and private.. even more is that the case for many wiccans... I suppose I would have told her, that Religion is a private matter and that I do not wish to share or discuss my believes in public. Of course being polite here is important... Good thing with that is that, while many christians do not mind sharing their believes in public... probably because they can without getting into trouble easily... there is nothing you can respond to it... because in the end it is a private matter... period.

I got a phone call the other day, selling Christan books for kids I replied nicely I was not interested and of coarse they persisted, so i said "Im a practicing Pagan, do ya have any books on that" she hung up. My Mom was (at me) I just turned to her and said "What, she wanted to know, ill bet she dont call back"
I do try to be nice but there are times im just not, depends on the situation. Now my Baby Girl Nevaeh, came to me (a while back) and said my friend wants me to go to church with her, can I go, I ask do you want to she said yes so I said go for it Baby Girl, have fun. She studies with me but ultimately its her life and decision. She came home and said it was fun, and she only went because she was bored. She is still my little Witch in progress.

Yes, cant always be nice.. some people just wont stop if you dont make a point... Some time ago, I met a christian guy in the city... he was trying to talk to people about jesus, how he loves and and so on... I tried to ignore him, but he kept following me and kept talking... At some point I just told him I was wiccan and I would not be interested in what he has to say... I added, that in addition there is not much he could tell me about it, since I was a franciscan and also in a priest seminary before getting completely into the craft... I dont think he would have been fine with me being a witch.. he already started a first attempt to "convert" me, but pointing out my past and clearly stating that I am happy with what I do and do not wish to have any other religion pushed on me - i would not push wicca on him either - he moved away... Some days later I met him again... this time he didnt even bother moving to me.. he just looked and walked on...

I understand that this seems to be a touchy subject but really what's so wrong about a little Jesus love? I'm not Christian but I do believe Jesus loves me and the good will they (the Christians and many other religions) send my way I appreciate. If the person is being genuine and friendly why twist it to a negative. However, if they're being overly aggressive and rude then all bets are off.
I don't know. I guess I appreciated having an open minded mother when I was growing up. Jesus, water witching, budda, and magic. It was all fair game and hearing about other religions wasn't a threat to her or her children.

We're quite lucky in Scotland, i seldom have people trying to push their religion on to me. In fact i had a quite pleasant chat with one of the Catholic priests when we were both waiting in the dentists a while back. He chose not to mention my pentagram tattoo or pendant and i chose not to make snide remarks about hangings, burnings and ducking poor innocent people in ponds and rivers because of mediaevel hysteria whipped up by the church.
Unfortunately there are occasional roving Jehovah's witnesses in our town and in my last house i made the mistake of answering the door to them one morning when i hadn't had my coffee. Tattoo on show, brain barely working and i mentioned i was wiccan and not interested. At least i'm sure that's what i said, but what he heard must have been, "Come and set up camp outside my front door on Sundays after going to church and bring your scary evangelical believer children with the burning eyes with you."
They did it for six months, so after the second month i decided to schedule all my dates on saturday nights and not let them leave until i knew the jehovahs witnesses were outside. Four months of seeing me kiss my boyfriends goodbye in front of their children sent them packing permanently.
And i don't feel particularly bad for kissing in front of those kids, mainly because they were camped on my doorstep trying to "Save me". So yeah, sue me for fighting dirty.

Well it was either that or answer the door with my athame in one hand and a cows heart in the other, but my butcher didn't have any cow hearts.
