I used my birth number which is 9 then picked a name that when the numbers were added they = 9
There is a chart on this in Buckland's complete book of witchcraft.
I got mine on the first try, but it can take a while to pick a name you like then have it match your birth#
To get your birth# you add your birthday
9/7/1982.....9+7+1+9+8+2= 36....3+6= 9 so 9 is the birth number.
Then use this chart
1 ~ 2 ~ 3 ~ 4 ~ 5 ~ 6 ~ 7 ~ 8 ~ 9
A ~ B ~ C ~ D ~ E ~ F ~ G ~ H ~ I
J ~ K ~ L ~ M ~ N ~ O ~ P ~ Q ~ R
S ~ T ~ U ~ V ~ W ~ X ~ Y ~ Z
Pick your name use the chart and see if its your birth number, if not keep trying till you come up with one you like and its = to your birth #.

I was allowed to wear the name I use. He gave the okay during a meditation.

Choose a name that expresses who you really are - or perhaps aspire to be. A name can attract certain energies to you. There's a book on magical names and I can't find it at the moment but it's by somebody McFarland and it's really good. It has hundreds of names listed in it and explains the energies of most of them.

I've been doing the chart and I have covered 3 sheets of paper both sides and I have yet to find one that really appeals to me. I mean this is a huge decision.
It's not as easy as I thought it was going to be. But I have to say its rather addicting Lol.

Your name doesn't have to add up to your birth number. I think it's more important for your name to reflect the energies you're working with as Michael explained.

Hello. I've been a member here for a while, but not really an active one.... I just happened to see this topic and thought I'd share my magikal name... My real name is Dawn. My magikal name is Dawn Luna Sky, but I tend to leave "Dawn" out. It was given to me by a friend that once told me I reminded her of a cloudless stary night sky. In other words, I'm very open with her and don't sugar coat anything..lol Strange to me at the time, but the name resonated with me....

My real name is Tiffany, but I dont wanna include that in my witch name. I thought about doing that, but any variation I came up with just sounded weird lol. You're though, your real name fits.

Just how vitaly important is a witch name? I currently don't have one. Should I? I have a hard enough time naming kids and pets - how will I ever chose a name for myself? lol

When I dedicated to a coven they gave me a ritual to perform to determine my craft name. It involved fasting a day, a ritual bath and a mirror in a room that was only lit by one candle and had some incense going, it was sandalwood incense. I was supposed to get a vision in the mirror, it was in my head and not the mirror and it was of the statue of Pan and his shepherd Daphnis. Later when I was in training I found out that Daphnis and my birth date are the same number, the number 8. So the ritual worked out. I now go by that craft name, Daphnis the Shepherd. Blessed Be

Thanks! It was thought that if someone knew your real name they had power over you. Today, many people like to have a magical name that says who they really are or expresses the energies they wish to attract to themselves. As well, when you put on your robes and go into circle you leave the mundane you behind and become the magical you. Briganta

That is entirely up to you. I think it can be important but it is not a necessity either. I agree with Briganta and her perception. But you have to realize the importance of your birth name as well. Its very important and a blessing in and of itself. Having a Magickal name is not just a 'nice' thing to have or something for show its an actual energetic imprint that you take on. I think the naming aspect and the importance of the process has been lost in so many people who just want a name that has a phoenix and raven in it and so they can be seen as 'magickal' rather then the name choosing them and embodying the magical aspect and energies of what the name offers. So if you do not have a 'magickal' name don't worry think of your born name as magickal and find out the importance of it. If and when you are ready you will find a name suitable for you.
